After a long time, the beautiful old Habanos brand Rafael González is getting a new vitola: the Coronas de Lonsdale. Their production name is Hermoso No.4, a format that traditionally exists in several Habanos brands. Connoisseurs know that all Hermosos have a ring gauge of 48. In the case of No.4 the length is 127 mm. You could call it a slightly slimmer and longer Robusto.
The name “Coronas de Lonsdale” is reminiscent of the classic format that once made this brand famous: in the 1930s of the last century, the fifth
Earl of Lonsdale, Hugh Cecil Lowther, made cigars specifically for his personal needs according to his wishes and in a special format. This vitola, which is actually called “Cervante” in the Cuban cigar industry, is still known today as “Lonsdale” (ring gauge 42, length 165 mm).
By the way, the full name of the brand is “Flor de Rafael González Márquez”, today the brand name “Rafael González” is used. It was originally created for the British market in 1928 by the Spanish aristocrat Márquez Rafael González. In the 1960s and
In the 1970s, “Rafael González”, like “El Rey del Mundo”, was considered one of Habanos' leading premium brands. At that time, cigars from the “Rafael González” brand were an integral part of the inventory of every serious cigar lover. Their light taste and fine aromas make them ideal for entering the world of premium cigars.
The new Coronas de Lonsdale are long fillers rolled entirely by hand. They are sold in boxes of ten decorated with lithographs.
