Named after William Shakespeare’s tragic lovers, the origins of the Habanos brand Romeo y Julieta go back to 1875.

In the early 20th century, the brand became world famous under the management of Don ‘Pepin’ Rodríguez, a talented business man who was one of the first to recognise the impact of the cigar bands. In his heyday, not less than 20,000 different cigar bands were used in production.

Sir Winston Churchill became a Romeo y Julieta aficionado. After he visited Havanna in 1946, he was not only commemorated on the cigar band, but he also became the epitome of the most famous format of this brand – the Romeo y Julieta Churchills.

Now there have been already two new formats with this name in the 21st century. The first one was the Short Churchills in 2006, a robusto format which was still missing in the portfolio of the brand. The second Vitola was launched in 2010 on the occasion of the “XII. Festival del Habano”: the Wide Churchills with a 55 band size. It follows the trend to cigars with an even larger band size.

The well balanced and aromatic mixture of the Romeo y Julieta, with choice fillers and binders of the tobacco cultivation zone Vuelta Abajo, ensures it is the classic of the Habanos with medium strong character.

Until today, the Habanos brand Romeo y Julieta is known the world over. It has the most extensive choice of totalmente a mano, tripa larga formats of all Habanos brands – long fillers completely manufactured by hand.
