Hoyo de Monterrey
Hoyo de Monterrey is the name of a plantation in San Juan y Martínez, which is in the heart of the tobacco cultivation zone Vuelta Abajo. The plantation Hoyo de Monterrey, one of the big Vegas de Primera in the centre of the city, has a gate with the inscription "Hoyo de Monterrey. José Gener. 1860".
Hoyo literally means ‘valley’ and here describes the deep location of the plantation on the fertile banks of the river San Juan y Martínez. José Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, used the name of this vega for one of his Habanos brands since 1865.
The taste of the Hoyo de Monterrey ensured it to be a popular choice for anyone liking a delicate, but at the same time aromatic Habano which is lighter in taste, however has and keeps its great elegance and complexity.
The brand is famous for its Double Corona and the Epicure range, the No.1 and No.2, which was joined in 2008 by the Epicure Especial. In addition there is also the line Le Hoyo, characterised by its slim and medium band sizes.
Hoyo de Monterrey was the first brand in the portfolio of which a Petit Robusto was introduced in 2004, with a band size 50, but shorter length for all those who prefer large bands, but do not always have much time to enjoy them.
All formats are totalmente a mano, tripa larga – long fillers completely manufactured by hand with fillers and binders from the Vuelta Abajo.
